JinkoSolar, the global leading PV and ESS supplier, today announced an agreement on the supply of 100 MWh of its SunTera utility-scale BESS to an independent grid-side energy storage power station in Southwest China. The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2025.
JinkoSolar SunTera, its containerized liquid-cooling BESS features a high level of safety, long service life and high integration. With IP55 and C5 anti-corrosion protection, it is also able to meet the requirements of harsh climatic conditions and extremely low temperatures.
JinkoSolar’s 5MWh SunTera liquid-cooling energy storage prefabricated cabin system equipped with 314Ah in-house produced LFP battery cells. Compared with the previous generation 20-foot 3.44 MWh energy storage system, the 20-foot 5MWh energy storage system has seen an increase in energy density by 50%, saving at least 30% land and initial cost. Due to its outstanding advantages in cost reduction and efficiency improvement, especially in the current context of winning bids at low prices, the 5MWh energy storage system is expected to become the preferred technology route for large energy storage power stations next year.
However, higher energy density puts forward higher requirements for fire protection design, including water fire protection, gas fire protection, early warning detection exhaust design, etc. In addition to the relatively high protection level of SunTera’s liquid-cooling PACK, which minimizes between-batteries temperature difference, and reaches IP67 and above, the use of PACK-level fire protection methods is adopted in SunTera.
SunTera's advanced energy storage technology is renowned for its exceptional safety features. Rigorous safety protocols and redundant multi-level systems are integrated into the project, ensuring reliable operation and mitigating potential risks associated with grid-side energy storage installations.
